Like all large companies, Uber will use outside contractors for many services. Uber needs to contract with local, Oakland-based businesses and develop a world-class supplier diversity program to ensure that businesses owned by people of color, women and LGBT individuals get their fair share of contracts. Good models for this have already been established in other industries. As much as possible, these contractors should be union workplaces, and their workers must earn a living wage.
